AGENDA ITEMS:
1. ACTION: Finance Committee Update Dave R. & Tony S.
No action is required today. After discussion, decided it was wiser to wait for Nevada County to complete their budget process first.

A presentation was made at the Nevada County Board of Supervisors meeting and it was well received.
Interviews for the position of Registry Training Specialist in the Grass Valley Office hopefully will hopefully have someone new placed soon.

Trish had done 2 outreach presentations in Downieville and Loyalton – both well attended. Hopefully will have another Registry Training Specialist placement in the Truckee office soon
8. Update on UDW/Union Plans Issues Tony S.
Another formal request for Provider names has been received.
Art Ramirez (U.D.W. organizer) has been contacting Tony. Molly Hilis, in attendance, expressed concerns on the structure of the PA representing 3 counties and how U.D.W. should proceed with organizing.
When the union organizes, do they need to approach the potential members in each county or as one group through this PA ? They will be contacting the workforce in the next few weeks. UDW has specific requirements before they can formalize their organization to represent this entity. Further information is going to be required from County Council. There is the possibility of representing 3 different bargaining units – treating each county separately.
Molly stated that the union can bargain for only 3 things really:
· Wages
· Hours
· Other terms of employment
But there are other things possible. Discussion followed.
9. Update on CAPA & State Budget Issues Dave R. & Tony S.
There is support in the State Senate & Assembly to prevent any cuts for the program offered. Discussion followed including stats on the Residual progam.
The decision was made not to have Town Hall Meeting. But we are doing more public service announcements on cable television.
The Care-A-Van is slated for June 8 & 9. There could be hundreds if not a couple of thousands in attendance. If you’re going to be in attendance, please let the contact in your area know so U.D.W. can reimburse mileage and accommodations. A flyer and schedules was included in each Board member’s packet.
The unity chain that was rolled out at the rally on May 20 was really quite impressive.
There will be a press conference on Tuesday for the Rally and events in conjunction with the Care-a-van.
There was discussion about the Legislature adding quality assurance for IHSS. Jean expressed a need for updated procedures for Social Workers. Good to see that there is interest in getting things upgraded. Stakeholders call every Friday morning that Tony is on. Discussion followed.
Mary commented that Public Transportation is a very hot topic – A lot of cutbacks going in to this coming fiscal year and there is a lot of talk regarding reducing services. The final public hearing will be this coming Wed. June 2 at the Rood Center.
10. Set Next Meeting Date – June 18, 2004 2:00 PM Board
A reminder that this is different than the normal meeting schedule.
